Who am I?

Hello! My name is Dylan Cawthorne, and I am 44 years old. I am originally from Alaska, USA, and have lived and worked in Odense since 2010. I am educated with a BSc in mechanical engineering, MSc in product design and innovation, and PhD in ethics and drone design. I work daily as an associate professor at the Drone Center in the Mærsk Institute of SDU in Odense.

As part of the Younger Party (Yngrelisten) I aim to represent the younger members of IDA. I know what it means to confront the challenges and opportunities that characterize younger lives - from getting an education, entering the workforce, and balancing this with one's personal life. Therefore, I naturally support the Younger Party's special issues: a focus on a flexible working life, lifelong learning, ethics in technology, and influencing the green transition.

For several years I have been engaged in bringing ethics into technology design and policy, with a focus on drones, along with other new technologies including robotics and AI. I have been supportive of humanitarian activities as a volunteer with Engineers Without Borders in Sierra Leone, West Africa. And I have successfully pushed for more focus on engineering ethics and responsibility as an IDA board member since 2022.

Outside of politics, I spend time making technological art, which gives me a broad perspective of both the opportunities and risks engineering affords us. I am passionate about making a difference for the younger generations, and to help prepare us all for our shared future.

Why am I a candidate?
I have been active in IDA as a board member since 2022. I am proud of the results we have created, especially around ethics and responsibility.  But I believe that to ensure a dynamic association requires constant work and a focus on the future, which the Younger Party will continue to fight for.
Why should you vote for me?
I hope you will vote for me again, so I can continue to fight for the critical issues we as a society face.  Now more than ever, we must consider the ethical implications of the technologies we are instrumental in creating.  If I am elected, I will bring ethics to the front of the conversation - engineering shows what we can do, but not necessarily what we should do.  With ethics involved, we can do good things for Danish society - and beyond.

At the Younger Party, we focus on these four key topics:• IDA should take increased responsibility for the sustainable transition of our society!• IDA should ensure a more flexible working culture!• IDA should ensure equal representation for the younger members (under 40 years old)!• IDA should double the number of volunteers and member offerings
If you agree, then I hope you will vote for me :-)
