CANDIDATE STATEMENT

Growing up on the Welsh and English border, I went to English primary schools, yet currently attend a Welsh highschool. There are so many parts of my history centric to Wales I do not know, as it was never taught in high school : only primary schools I never went to. An aim of mine is to change the highschool curriculum to teach more history centric to our country and culture, so those children like me can understand who they are to an extent further than their English heritage. Not only this, but to just further the appreciation and revival of Welsh culture throughout Britain.

Being LBGT+ and female, I have experienced an amount of discrimination in my life, which is almost inevitable. However, I believe, with an education changed to touch on the suppression of these, and other historically suppressed, groups, the intolerance they face in future generations could decrease. Allowing me to become a member would give those like myself a voice they've rarely had before, and achieve this.

DATGANIAD YMGEISYDD

Cefais fy magu ar y ffin rhwng Cymru a Lloegr, ac roeddwn i’n mynd i ysgolion cynradd yn Lloegr, ond dw i’n mynd i ysgol uwchradd yng Nghymru. Mae cymaint o rannau o hanes dw i ddim yn gwybod amdanynt, gan nad oedd yn cael ei addysgu yn yr ysgol uwchradd: dim ond mewn ysgolion cynradd dw i erioed wedi mynd iddyn nhw. Un nod sydd gen i yw newid y cwricwlwm ysgolion uwchradd i addysgu mwy o hanes sy’n fwy creiddiol i’n gwlad, fel bod plant fel fi’n gallu deall pwy ydyn nhw i raddau pellach na’u treftadaeth Seisnig.

Gan fy mod i’n LHDT+ ac yn fenyw, dw i wedi profi tipyn o wahaniaethu, sydd bron yn anochel. Fodd bynnag, gyda system addysg sydd wedi’i newid i edrych ar y ffordd mae’r grwpiau hyn wedi cael eu hatal, dw i’n credu y gallai cenedlaethau’r dyfodol wynebu llai o anoddefgarwch. Byddai fy ngalluogi i i fod yn aelod yn rhoi i bobl fel fi lais dydyn nhw braidd wedi’i gael o’r blaen.
